Musk, owner of electric vehicle company Tesla, advocated for increasing domestic oil and gas production on Friday.

President Biden has faced criticism from across the political spectrum in recent days for not ramping up American energy production amidst the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The invasion has disrupted the global energy market. Despite the war, the U.S. continues to buy 650,000 barrels of oil per day from Russia. Some are arguing that purchasing from Russia is financing Russian President Putin’s war machine.

US gas prices averaged $3.837 a gallon on Friday and were up over one dollar from last year’s price tag. According to one projection, gasoline could reach $5 per gallon in some parts of the country by 2023.

When an owner of an electric vehicle manufacturer calls for increasing domestic oil and gas production, a revamp of Biden’s failed energy policies is long overdue.
